What the score actually measures

Most families are not missing the paperwork. Wills get written, policies get bought, and the important documents usually exist somewhere. What tends to be missing is everything around them — where they are, who to call, and the handful of details that were only ever kept in one person's head.

The twenty questions cover six areas. Each is scored on its own, so you can see where you are already in good shape and where a single afternoon would make the most difference.

• Legal & Documents — Whether the will, deeds, and key paperwork can actually be found by someone who needs them.

• Medical & Care — Care preferences, medications, and who is authorised to speak for you.

• Financial & Insurance — Accounts, policies, and debts your family would otherwise have to reconstruct.

• Digital Access — Devices, email, and the accounts that quietly hold everything else together.

• People & Logistics — Who to contact, in what order, and what they each need to be told.

• Wishes & What Only You Know — The preferences and small pieces of knowledge nobody has written down.

Who this is for

Anyone who has ever thought “my family would have no idea where to start.” That includes people organising their own affairs, and adult children trying to work out what a parent has already sorted out and what they haven't. It takes about two minutes, and most people find at least one gap they hadn't considered.
